Book List

Books are useful early on to learn skills, but not very helpful later. It's a quick way to get a bit of money though. I don't use Authoring all that much, but I do use Publishing.

Leon is the only character that can benefit from Authoring as he can write books to serve as weapons. Everyone else should stick to Publishing.

If You manage to get Authoring early on, then by all means, write books to save money for further skill sets, but that's about all it's good for. You'll probably end up spending the same amount for pens as you will with buying the skill sets. You also have to have at least a level 5 in the skill you want to write on. Personally, I don't think it's worth it.

Books for Publishing

Here we go. The meat of the writing skill. Not only can you get money for these books, you can alter relationship feelings as well. The first book will alter Friendship and the second book will alter Romance. Be aware that the second book is rare and won't show up much, but when it does, use it wisely.

Tip: Use the Beret and Text Software to up the chances for success. I've found that I get more rare books that way.
